Focusing on the development and increasing the understanding of social and emotional learning (SEL) competencies can help teachers, practitioners as well as policy makers navigate the varied and complex causes of educational inequity and work to close these gaps. Teachers are the engine that drives social and emotional learning (SEL) programs and practices in schools and classrooms, and their own social-emotional competence and wellbeing strongly influence their students. Classrooms with warm teacher-child relationships support deep learning and positive social and emotional development among students. It is important to prepare teachers to create and maximize opportunities for children’s SEL in the classrooms. The presentation will share UNESCO Bangkok’s experience equipping ECCE teachers with knowledge and skills to ensure that children develop pro-social and emotional skills and positive peer relationships from the early stage of the learning process.
